NEWS on the memorial honor huard corps at the albert G. horton, jr. memorial VETERANS’ cemetery

Since 2004, the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery has honored more than 16,000 veterans and their family members. Every year approximately 600 more veterans are laid in their final resting place. Now, with the creation of the new Honor Guard Corps, it will be possible to offer full honors with a rifle volley for all those who ask. Our goal is to honor, remember, and recognize all those who have served. Read more.

MITS-GIVES, Inc. Joins Annual Horton Wreath Society for the Laying of the Wreaths

MITS employees joined the Horton Wreath Society to lay wreaths at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Continuing a long tradition, MITS-GIVES, Inc. supports the Horton Wreath Society to honor, recognize, and educate the community on the lifetime of commitment, service, and courage of veterans to preserve the freedoms of our country.

While at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Cemetery, MITS-GIVES, Inc. was able to seek volunteers to serve in new Honor Guard that will provide full military honors to veterans and their families who request them. The Honor Guard will be ready for service by Memorial Day 2023. Learn more.

The Virginia Pilot reports “Chesapeake veteran, business owner establishes nonprofit to help other veterans and their families”

SUFFOLK — For years, Mike Ihrig has been one of many volunteers who place 13,000 live evergreen wreaths on the graves of veterans during the holidays at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.

As acting vice president of the Horton Wreath Society, Ihrig learned that only 10% of the roughly 1,500 veterans interred each year at the Suffolk cemetery receive their full funeral military honors. Ihrig, CEO of Chesapeake-based MI Technical Solutions, plans to change that. Read More

Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.

MITS-GIVES Joins Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Thank you to everyone for participating in and supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s this year. We had 21 MITS walkers all over Virginia, Utah, and Florida. The MITS-Fish even appeared in Chesapeake.

We raised approximately $2,800 through the walk. Thank you to everyone for their generosity and time!
